My research is situated in the fields of political and cultural geography and anthropology. Specifically, I am interested in the geographies of violence, security and necropolitics; postcoloniality and peripheralizition; democracy, citizenship and queer politics; urban governance; affective geographies. My habilitation, which was based on research with communities affected by killings and forced disappearance in Brazilian peripheries, develops concepts such as 'accumulation by disappearance' and 'terrorscapes' to investigate spatial power formations. Following up on this research, I am currently engaging with actors of international law and transnational solidarity in Europe that mobilise against forced disappearance. Moreover, I have been working on affective dimensions of far-right politics in Germany, the evangelical movement, as well as 'infrastructures of intimacy'. In 2023/24, I was Interim Professor at Goethe University Frankfurt, and in 2021/22, I held an Interim Professorship at TU Dresden. I also held guest lectureships at UNESP/Presidente Prudente, Brazil. I received my PhD from The Open University in Milton Keynes, UK in 2011. Besides my research and teaching, I have been dedicating time and passion to the creation of public formats for the discussion of research beyond academic spaces, as well as to my work as founding editorial member of the open-access journal on critical urban research 'sub\urban - zeitschrift für kritische stadtforschung'.
